“Maine values YOU” is the message that our public universities have for Maine’s high school students and their families.
At Maine’s public universities, $400 million in annual research activity, state allocation, and donor contributions provide Maine students with access to a world-class education and 280 accredited degree programs. Outside the classroom, the statewide university service mission and activities on seven campuses provide boundless opportunities for students to lead, explore, and perform.
Twenty-one million dollars in grants and scholarships are awarded to first-year Maine public university students to help pay for college and nearly every student who applies for financial aid is eligible. Gift aid awards to first-year Maine applicants averaged $7,800 per student last year — enough to cover 85% of the average tuition and fee charges at our universities.
Valuing affordability reduces debt for students and their families. First-year Maine public university students borrow about $4,000 less in their initial year of college than peers who attend private or out-of-state institutions that enroll significant numbers of Maine high school graduates.
